Villa line up Lyon ace Gomis as Carew replacement

Olympique Lyon star Bafetimbi Gomis is a target for Aston Villa.

The Daily Star says Villa boss Gerard Houllier has earmarked France striker Gomis as the man he wants to replace Carew.

Carew and new manager Houllier had a blazing row at Aston Villa’s training ground on Monday.

In response to Houllier’s comments that Carew must earn a new contract, the giant Norwegian striker attacked his boss for a lack of respect and refused to back down from his remarks during a showdown meeting.

Carew now looks set to move in the January transfer window or when his current deal expires in the summer. And Houllier is plotting an £9.5m move for powerful 6ft 1ins Lyon forward Gomis, who has been dubbed the ‘New Didier Drogba’ in France.
