Fiorentina blow as Frey out for six months

Fiorentina have suffered a huge blow with goalkeeper Sebastien Frey ruled out for up to six months with a knee injury.

Frey, 30, was hurt in training on Tuesday and underwent tests which confirmed the club's worst fears. Summer signing Artur Boruc will now take Frey's place in Fiorentina's starting XI.

A statement from the club read: ''The tests done have shown damage to the anterior cruciate ligament. The player will need to undergo surgery.

''The time for a complete recovery will vary between four and six months, depending on the surgery he will need.''

Frey's injury is another blow for Fiorentina, who are already without star striker Stefan Jovetic for six months.
