Hamburg dealt Van Nistelrooy adductor injury blow


Hamburg have confirmed that Ruud van Nistelrooy has torn an adductor muscle, with the former Real Madrid striker now facing up to a month on the sidelines.

Van Nistelrooy, who swapped the Bernabeu for the Bundesliga this January, suffered the injury in training on Tuesday and a scan on Wednesday revealed the full extent of the damage.

The Netherlands striker has impressed since arriving at the club and was even recalled to the Dutch national team in August after a two-year international exile.

He appears certain to miss Hamburg's upcoming league matches against Hoffenheim and Dortmund, while games against Hannover and then Stuttgart on November 27 may also come too soon.

After starting the season with seven goals in five games, Van Nistelrooy has been experiencing a drought of late and has failed to score in Hamburg's past five games.
